@W1zzard Would you frown upon someone making their own custom shirt that has say "Techpowerup" on it with the power button logo same as you have it, and some design of my own making to make it look cool? Local place in my town makes custom t-shirts to say anything you want, I wanted to get a Techpowerup/Space Lynx themed shirt done.

I won't do it if it's crossing any line or you just aren't comfortable with it though, I just think it would be cool to have, when out traveling maybe someone will spot it and be like hey I use TPU too, aren't you that eccentric SoB??!?! LMAO I don't know why I but I hope this happens someday

Individual T-shirts with username would be cool. Just don't see TPU opening a mech shop anytime soon.

Didn't themailman do something like that years ago? Maybe it was just coffee mugs. I don't recall what happened to all of that.

I know, having a physical merch shop would be too much for W1zz, that's why I asked if I could just make a custom one on my own dime, just a single t-shirt to wear sometimes. It's no big deal if he says no, just thought I'd ask.

Well I can tell you from experience working at a apparel print place, it is a major undertaking.

1-off T-Shifts like sport names and numbers don't come cheap if you do it properly. Those cheap paints that dry in the house oven or vinyl stickers come apart after 1-2 washes. Not worth the money at all, but they are really common and easy to make / waaàay cheaper.

So to place a proper order of quality you need 100-200 qt minimal. Now it has to sit somewhere until people buy it.

Good quality hoddie would be easily $55 each at cost. To the buyer it is more like $100 after shipping and expensives.

There are new advancements in the mech print industry. Digitally printers on T-shirts. Pretty cool stuff. Idk the wash cycle count on those. Besides the machine being over 100k, you can get individual prints and design for cheaper compared to traditional screen prints.

I never thought of any of that, but you are right some of those custom t's can be shoddy quality.

Hmm maybe a TPU baseball cap (I am balding so I wear baseball caps, don't judge me lol)

Space Lynx on the back and TPU on the front, or vice versa, that would be a cool hat

it's free advertising, as I wear my hat everywhere I go even when flying, so I am not sure why he would say no, unless he has plans for his own merch store, in which case I am down with that and will gladly buy from it ^^

My wife works for a company that does this kind of work.

She can get apparel for pretty much cost. She can design the work herself and then she's got printer connections through her work. She was - this was 7-8 years ago now - printing some shirts on the side and selling them. The shirts were selling at about $24 a pop because she had them printed when ordered, which cost a bit more because you're paying for single items to be printed. I think her cost overall at the time was $14, so she'd make $10 a shirt. Probably sold a few dozen over the year she did it and then she stopped doing it because it was kind of a pain to stay on top of it while doing her freelancing stuff.

As you say, getting a lot would be cheaper just because of quantity. Then of course sitting on inventory, having the ability to store it and then ship it and deal with the customers.....It would be a bit of an undertaking for most people to do something like this.

I would for sure buy a sticker, maybe a coffee cup if it was big enough. I am not smart enough for a pocket protector, but I would be interested in a new mouse pad maybe. I have an ancient steelseries hard mat, its been good. I think we have been together for 12 years now :D

Anywhoo..

My Aunt is excellent at sowing, I was thinking just having a patch made up that says Techpowerup and then Space Lynx and have her sow them into a brand new hat, should be fairly cheap, especially with all the crafty people on Etsy these days making things like this possible
